Years & Years ‘Shine’ review: their brightest moment yet

If 'King' was Years & Years' breakout, 'Shine' is destined to become the song that cements them as one of the most genuine and exciting bands of the year.

There's an emotional, trembling quality to Olly's voice that's vulnerable, powerful and sexy. With synth-heavy bands, you can sometimes lose the humanity of the music in favour of slick production. But Years know when to hold all of that back and let their voices sell it. You feel every lyric as Olly Alexander sings about an all-consuming love.

It deserves to get to number one, but even if it doesn't match the heady success of its predecessor, this is an incredible track – one that shines a spotlight on their huge talent. Their future looks very bright from here.
