Tribes - Sappho
‘Sappho’ may point towards a band with just the one juggling pony.
For their recent Reading Festival appearance, Tribes asked their loyal fan brigade to cross-dress in appreciation of their new video and current single ‘Sappho’. This is a band who aren’t scared of trying new things, but only in the underwear department; frontman Johnny Lloyd declaring on the bands site that they "couldn’t be bothered to mess around with experimental music anymore."
They have, instead, concentrated on having a good time, and to be fair they generally do seem to be following the band agenda rather well. After their previous single ‘We Were Children’, the Camden four-piece engage a fairly similar offering to the world with their second. Using the same grunge-pop riffs and whispered chorus, ‘Sappho’ may point towards a band with just the one juggling pony.
Having heard them live, they have far more interesting tunes in their arsenal. ‘Sappho’ is simply plain sailing for Tribes, but not to very unfamiliar waters.
