Miles Kane - Come Closer

Sometime Shadow Puppet and frontman of now defunct also-rans The Rascals, Kane is now pursuing life as a solo artist. The fact he’s currently touring with Beady Eye gives you some idea of what’s on offer, a slab of retro indebted rock and roll (in the modern sense) with a generous serving of "woahs" and "aahs" along the way. The guitar solo which breaks up proceedings is gutsy and well executed but carries a lightweight track where lyrics seem hastily tossed together and deliver little in the way of insight or creative flair.

There are hints of the cinematic in the sense you could imagine 'Come Closer' sound-tracking a gritty independent flick but that may just be the effect of the accompanying Daisy Lowe featuring promo clip which is far slicker than it’s musical counterpart.

After the grab-hold-of-your-jacket thrills of debut single 'Inhaler', this latest effort comes and goes without leaving so much as a trace. If you went to your local swimming pool and the water was tepid you would think twice about immersing yourself in it and the same principal applies here.

When 'Wreckin Bar (Ra Ra Ra)' by The Vaccines creates twice as much excitement in half the time there’s nothing more that needs to be said.
