First of all, relax. You're safe from the caterwaul of Russell Brand's beloved. Katy B is not the post-marital moniker of pop's cake-wearing queen - far from it, in fact. She's actually Britain's hottest hot ticket, if you're willing to side with the overwrought critics dead set on launching her to dizzy heights in 2011.
Katy B's already made a splash on London's club scene, with the Benga-produced 'Katy On A Mission' having done the rounds months ago. And it is her immersion in this atmosphere that 'Lights On' so sassily celebrates. Joined by swaggering Ms Dynamite, she shines as a dancefloor-destined street poet who, at just 21 years of age, can deftly articulate what those crazy kids are feeling. A slick departure from her BRIT School roots, 'Lights On' is synth-soaked dubstep that stylishly shimmers beneath a bold vocal delivery.
Lyrically, it celebrates the end of a night out - when the music stops, the fluorescents come on and Katy B just keeps on dancing. In reality, the mascara-strewn aftermath is not much worth singing about. But with an infectious beat, Katy B will calmly convince you it is. For that feat alone, next year should surely belong to this woman.
