Calvin Harris - You Used To Hold Me
There comes a time when you need to say ‘enough is enough’.
There comes a time when you need to say ‘enough is enough’ with all this throwaway, production line electro-pop. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened yet, and as a result releases like this, Calvin Harris's 'You Used To Hold Me', are still coming to the fore with people taking them a lot more seriously than perhaps they should.
Cutting straight to the chase is an understatement as the version most people will have a chance to hear drops straight in to a huge breakdown. “Knock down everything I try to do” opens the messy affair, before vocal hook and forgettable electro-house baseline carry the tune forward.
There seems to have been ‘anthem’ stamped all over this track before it left the studio, with the only problem being that anthems in the electronic genres generally have some of the required elements, be it surprise, reward, innovation or sincerity. Here we have none.
In short - pretty pointless but scheduled for success.
