Amelia Lily: ‘Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got)’ review

Amelia Lily oozes potential through her pores. Arguably one of the most confident performers ever produced by The X Factor, she managed to outclass Marcus Collins and her fellow X Factor contestants at almost every turn. But despite all that, Amelia's on shaky ground with her new single.

Though the title promises more of that knock-you-off-your-feet girl power, 'Shut Up' manages to be both unconvincing and irritating as the song stomps on with meandering confidence. There's none of subtle sophistication that pulsed through 'You Bring Me Joy' and the synthesisers don't lift the song like they should; without those elements, this single sounds like generic chart-friendly fodder far beneath what Amelia's capable of.

You'll find yourself glad when the end comes and that's a sad anti-climax. It's inoffensive, even catchy in the verses, but it does become maddening as the chorus repeats.
