White Stripes - You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told)

The White Stripes return with possible the longest song title of the year, with their sweeping statement 'You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)'. Their second single from the patchy 'Icky Thump' may not have the killer riff of the title track single, but certainly is the catchiest. A Nashville stomp filtered through a garage rock haze, the sprightly tune sugarcoats the harsh lyrical putdown delivered in Jack White's distinct voice.

Not Jack and Meg at their very best, but a fine addition to a growing catalogue of sublime singles. The White Stripes may have peaked a few years ago, and after the delectable Raconteurs album, it leaves the question how long will Jack need to pursue both musical avenues?
