We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices

One of the scenesters' tracks of choice last year, A-side 'Quiet Little Voices' kicks off determinedly, all runaway train chords and repetitive key changes. Even the oft-abused 'Oh-oh' backing vocals within the big-room chorus riffs don't hinder the song's ability to provide an enjoyable trip down a well-trodden, potentially disastrous path.

'Let's Call This A Map' replaces the driving for the stepping, and whilst perhaps more interesting in a chin-stroking conversation, it comes poor second in comparison to the well-chosen single. Not to say that the track is particularly weak, lurching into arching rhythms that display a tightness that many would envy. The real treat though comes as it tumbles into a pacey, 'out of character' mid-section, ticking the box marked 'dancefloor potential', before a filtered thirty or so seconds mark an ending that may be the cleverest parody of the 80s fade out.
