The Whip - Blackout

'Blackout' is the latest release from the Manchester noisemakers' well'received debut album 'X Marks Destination' though it feels somewhat of a letdown after the heady rush of 'Trash' and 'Sister Siam'. The song itself is inspired by iconic nightclub The Hacienda, where lights would be turned off mid-set, though this record would have had more chance to have found use as a coaster than achieving that highly coveted spin.

So what about the remixes? Popular Computer turn in a Ed Banger-style reworking which hits all the right electro spots, whilst Ashley Beedle presses the button marked epic with a mix that contains more twists and turns than your average box of Scalextric. Whilst there is plenty of stronger material in the band's cannon, the fresh interpretations merit investigation before bargain bin oblivion beckons.
