"Bad boys kicking up a storm at the back of the bus", orate The Tunics, "as you wish to God you'd be saved by the bell". Lyrics like this sum yob culture in today's society, and on 'Cost Of Living' these issues are attacked head on. Fortunately there's enough in this song to alleviate itself from being just another social commentary rant.
This organic sounding three-piece from Croydon are like the love child of those wordsmiths Arctic Monkeys and a cleaned up version of The Libertines, and this single only helps to galvanise this comparison. The music is sprightly, albeit a bit repetitive at times, but when the storytelling is this captivating, with words that surely echoes true in many a listener, this song has hefty resonance. Perhaps if Alex Turner had penned these lyrics, then it might have been heralded as an anthem against chav culture, but hey, that's life.
