The Scarlet Street Resistance - Nasty Thoughts

"Don't judge a book by its cover" - you've doubtless heard it said a thousand times, and maybe even considered it with the music you have bought. This CD cover artwork, terrible and tacky as it is, belies a sound that resembles Gossip so closely I actually thought Beth Ditto had just crashed in through the ceiling to pay me a visit. It was not she though, Ditto's voice being stronger than this lady's, and well, everyone else's. Let's forget how bad the band name, that matches the artwork, is too.

The song 'Nasty Thoughts' is big, overblown and perfect for filling the dance floor, just like their obvious inspiration. There's even a slow chorus-type bit before the song pounds back in like a storm. However, it does what has already been done before, and several years previously, feeling and sounding dated. Not exceptional enough to avoid this scenario, therefore doubtful to achieve the great commercial success it would probably desire. A good song, but the musical revolution will have to wait while everyone is going by the book. It's better than its cover though.
