The Ruby Suns - Kenya Dig It?
Posted 5th Jun 2008 in Single Reviews, The Ruby Suns by Chris Cope |

After immediately being doused in mystical wishy washy synth, it is clear that listening to 'Kenya Dig It?' will inevitably be akin to lying on the grass and watching the clouds go by under a nice ruby sun. But for every cute balloon shaped cloud that floats by, there's sure to be a pink elephant one chasing it soon after. Each minute offers a slice of poppy psychadelic drowsiness and if you encouraged Frank Zappa to take some valium, then this is what might have been the result.Split 'Kenya Dig It?' into two halves and you've got the crux of the song. The first half revolves around plinky plonky pop - quirky, catchy and smile inducing. The second half however diffuses into a sort of calm, serene lullaby of keyboards and singing, with Ryan McPhun's soft vocals floating by and failing to recapture the enchanting addictiveness of the first couple of minutes. With a sunshine start but a slightly weary ending, The Ruby Sun's latest effort leaves a sweet but ultimately unsatisfying taste in the mouth.
