The Mars Volta - Viscera Eyes
Posted 22nd Sep 2006 in Single Reviews |

Thought by some to be the lone decent song on The Mars Volta's new album, 'Viscera Eyes' is one of the most accessible to the uninitiated. It is a standard piece of rock, just with a Mars Volta prog twang to it. Thundering drums and a captivating guitar riff is the best it gets amongst an amalgam of other instruments making this sound a rusty piece of music. The album version is over twice as long as the radio edit, and is a more complete piece of work with more instrumental interludes and peaks and troughs in the rhythm. Towards the end, an inspired guitar solo followed by the psychedelic howling of Cedric Bixler-Zavala justifies the epic proportions of 'Viscera Eyes'. Noone can comprehend what they're singing, but played live this will excite the fans and declare that The Mars Volta are back to full force.
