Listening to 'Radio Booth' by The Chemists is a confusing experience. It starts all generic indie-rock mundanity and beige-grey monotone vocals and then suddenly without warning, BOOM, along comes an explosively massive chorus, like a nail-bomb in your brain-box, replete with fierce guitars and gutteral howls of arson. "That's more like it", you think, and then without even realising, it drifts back into yawnsome mass-produced mediocrity. Dammit.
The Haunts remix is much more compelling, completely ignoring the verse as if it never existed. The Chemists' anthemic chart-rock is likely to be hugely popular with the record-buying public, having been produced by Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Doves), so expect to see their album splashed all over billboards in 2009.
