The Black Ghosts - Anyway You Choose To Give It

The Black Ghosts describe their music as sounding like "chains rattling on the stairs... voices from the other side...", although quite what this means is rather unclear - reflecting the artwork on their MySpace site and on the sleeve of their latest single much more so than the actual music. The claim that they are 'Gothic/Electro/Pop', however, seems to make much more sense.

'Anyway You Choose To Give It' is indeed a slice of electro-pop; the two Ghosts employing catchy hooks and melodies throughout. As such, the track is frighteningly addictive; the speed at which it is possible to recite the chorus - incidentally, it was after just one listen - is indicative of this. The main melody, although repetitive and no doubt the reason why it is so hard to get the song out of your head, does not grate or become dull even after several listen because the vocals are so inoffensive.

There are resonances of a proper cheesy anthemic dance track at times during this single - enough to make enjoying it a little bit of a guilty pleasure, but not too much to write it off completely. However, if this were to be exaggerated further then 'Anyway You Choose To Give It' would probably have to be resigned to the latter category.

If you had never heard The Black Ghosts before and just had their artwork to go on, this latest single would not be what you would expect. For that, and the fact that it somehow manages to evoke a need to dance round the room, 'Anyway You Choose To Give It' is a single worth having a quick listen to.
