Simian Mobile Disco - Clock EP
Lead track 'Clock' has an air of childlike innocence to add to its krautrock openings and 'Simple' is an out and out synth squawk rave up.
James Ford and Jas Shaw return with a four track long instrumental ravine - blips, caustic blasts, beats and kaleidoscopic analogue. Three of the EP's four tracks will already be familiar to diehards, having featured on the duo's previously released self-titled EP. It feels like the vinyl's got stuck at some points, and whether this makes for complete immersion or a directionless reverie is another thing - not that either are necessarily derisible. In fact, far from it: the minimalism is captivating, developed, and seems to have found the right balance between pretension and childhood Casio.
Lead track 'Clock' has an air of childlike innocence to add to its krautrock openings and 'Simple' is an out and out synth squawk rave up. '3 Pin Din' and 'State Of Things' tend to tire and feel less imaginative, making the EP as a whole not quite mind blowing. Maybe all it needs is a catalyst.
