It is hard to believe that this is Red Light Company's debut release. With such assured playing and a shiny collection of memorable hooks, this is surely the beginning of something promising. 'With Lights Out' is a chunky piece of alternative rock, which is a sure fire statement of intent from the UK based five piece. The song takes strength from its monster chorus, which enjoys lead guitar see-sawing over the top and has the potential be permanently lodged in your head for days after. The vocals waver in sort of Brian Molko way but don't detract from the upbeat music which lays underneath, and with a classic and familiar song structure, it's a perfect pop-rock package.
With 'First We Land' the pace is mellowed and its keyboard driven sound is a delicate breather after the weighty opener. Once again we are reminded of the band's blatant ability to pen both catchy verses and catchy choruses, but this track showcases their more experimental side through eerie keyboard effects and vocal harmonies. 'Sinking Ship' extends the melancholy aura, but lacks the panache of the earlier two tracks.
