Mumford And Sons - The Cave

The olde folk revival continues apace with London based Mumford And Sons riding on the tails of Fleet Foxes into the charts. They are good friends with Noah And The Whale. Lead singer Marcus Mumford has drummed for indie siren Laura Marling. They're as well connected as the Tube map - they probably do Johnny Flynn's washing up.

Things start promisingly. 'The Cave' starts with a soothing acoustic guitar line that comforts, and instantly places them in a similar vein to their London chums (chums being the correct word when you have a member called Winston). It gently builds, as well as featuring some of the fastest banjo playing this side of Tennessee. Vocals rattle along at a fair old lick, and it's all pretty lovely.

The gentle tooting of brass is added to the mix on 'My Head Told My Heart', a soothing song that emerges out of the English folk tradition with its accordion proudly emblazoned on its chest. Mumford And Sons are worthy coat tail riders, deserving their place on the burgeoning London folk scene.
