Mongrel - Hit From The Morning Sun
The leftovers of Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys and John 'The Rev' McClure are more Travelling Circus than Travelling Wilburys.
Plenty of artists seeking musical liberation and a creative outlet for the more experimental side of their ideas branch off into side projects, although the leftovers of Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys and John 'The Rev' McClure are more Travelling Circus than Travelling Wilburys.
After last year's hugely successful Rock Against Racism campaign, McClure promised a radical politicised message that spoke out against the establishment in a way that mainstream bands have often shied away from. What we get instead is an energetic but creatively bankrupt rap from Mpho and Tor who spit the usual cliche-ridden urban nonsense. The frenetic tempo is well and truly punctured by a blink and you'll miss it appearance from McClure who repeats the song's title with all the passion of somebody reading a shopping list after far too much weed.
If you haven't got anything interesting or vital to say then maybe it's best left unsaid, but at least such diversions delay the truly abhorrent possibility of another Reverend And The Makers LP.
