Manu Chao - Me Llaman Calle
Posted 15th Jan 2008 in Single Reviews, Manu Chao by Francis Jolley |

Manu Chao is probably the best known artist on the modern Latin/world music scene. Even Robbie Williams has covered 'Bongo Bong' (though dreadful) and Chao has gone on to sell over 3 million records and toured the world. It has taken him six years to follow up his last album 'Radio Bemba Sound System' with 'La Radiolina', and 'Me Llaman Calle' is the latest single to be taken from that very album. From the frenzy of hand claps to the exquisite guitar playing, this is exactly what you'd expect from Manu Chao. Sung in his native Spanish, it's not a classic and relies too much on a never ending chorus that will not cease until it's trapped inside the listener's mind. Listen out for what seems to be a python doing some extra percussion. What will they think of next?
Fans of the genre will no less be reaching for the cascanets and salsa dancing the night away to 'Me Llaman Calle', but this wont be another crossover single to rival 'Bongo Bong'.
