Last Gang - Beat Of Blue

As a debut, 'Beat Of Blue' does exactly what it says, and while it doesn't exactly make us think about its meaning, there's a clear blob of talent, which with a little refining and tweaking could become the new Kooks.

Last Gang - Beat Of Blue

A debut by a new indie band is never an easy thing to hit the public with, unless it hypothetically has the power of The Killers, the infectiousness of The Automatic's 'Monster' and a bit of Lily Allen's style, there's little chance of it actually doing well, even if it does sound like a should-be monster hit. This is sadly the case for Last Gang's debut 'Beat Of Blue'. With its luxurious lyrics, fronted by Kristian, the band clearly have worked out what a hit in their minds should sound like, but the finished product isn't exactly 'refreshing' or 'new' for a market now brimming full of bands already keeping the public quite happy.

Of course, however, we must remember that as a debut, 'Beat Of Blue' does exactly what it says, and while it doesn't exactly make us think about its meaning, there's a clear blob of talent, which with a little refining and tweaking could become the new Kooks. Actually - scratch that - Last Gang are far too good to be the new Kooks - they just simply have to become the new Last Gang, and then, for sure, a top ten hit will become easy picking for them.
