King Creosote - You Are Could I EP
Posted 13th Nov 2006 in Single Reviews |

After being released a year ago, King Creosote’s album ‘KC Rules OK’ was released again as a special edition in the summer. So what is his excuse for releasing this EP featuring ‘You Are Could I’, a song already heard twice before on the album? The song itself is a bubbly tune but rather unfulfilling, as its mindless rhyming makes it sound almost amateurish. The sort of song that should be left being sung in remote Scottish pubs on Friday nights. The other two tracks on the EP are mellower, heartfelt efforts and suit the voice of King Creosote. ‘The Vice Like Gist Of It’ is another release of an album track, although it has been transformed into a gentler cello track. Nevertheless there is a disappointing feeling of "why?" whilst listening to it.
Nestled between the two is ‘The Waltzer’. Though only a demo, it could have been released as the main attraction on the EP. Starting off with a quiet accordian, the track appears like it should belong on the 'Amelie' soundtrack. Stirring lyrics reminiscent of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billie on top form soon bring this track to the fore. Gentle electronica in the background make this a psychedelic offering from King Creosote and the highlight of the, otherwise forgettable, EP.
