Hadouken! - Declaration Of War

Given that Hadouken! seem to be the latest nu-rave band 'for the kids' and have garnered themselves a love them or hate them reputation you'd be forgiven for hoping a record entitled 'Declaration Of War' would be a bit more, well, interesting.

The track passes by in a fluffy production akin to The Killers gone Euro pop, Eighties synths whirling around the lead vocals that come in aggressive and shouty (verse) and heart-felt and trans-Atlantic (chorus). What is startling is that for a dance record there is almost no bottom end - the closest they get is a pound shop Prodigy bass line that is soon smothered by a deluge of keyboards and FX drenched vocals. While the track is catchy enough when you're listening to it, it is totally devoid of any edge or impact, and has left your head by the time it has finished.

This makes for a damp squib of a record really, disappointing in that at there is just nothing new on display here. Hopefully we won't have to endure a wave of bands following in the wake of Klaxons' massive success in a similar way that the sound-alikes appeared after the first Arctic Monkeys album.
