Gloria Cycles - Chancer
It's easy to see a small crowd of pogoing pissed-up kids in your third eye.
This Brightonian quartet have been attracting praise from everyone from the NME to Artrocker, and some of it is quite justified. Just the right side of pop and the right end of indie to find themselves in the middle of Accessibleville, their upbeat sound and honest music may well be the perfect sign of the springing of Spring.
Single 'Chancer' chugs along, erring between by numbers and clever rhythmic shifts, upping the pace as the chorus demands "scream, scream, scream, scream everybody", it's easy to see a small crowd of pogoing pissed-up kids in your third eye.
As is disappointingly often the case, B-side 'Tatters' is, impartially, a better track. An increased emphasis on brass brings an altogether more 'full' sound to the outfit as the number drops, slurs, picks up and then races off in a kind of girly, bubblegum ska fashion that's quite enjoyable, if not downright compulsive.
