Fight Like Apes - Tie Me Up With Jackets
Expertly straddling the line between left-field daintiness and cymbal crashing ferocity.
With an opening line of "same goes for you, I like my meatballs in a dish", one may fear that this song by Irish foursome Fight Like Apes might end up a bit neon-clad quirky, with a pubescent spots 'n' all ethos of being as random as possible. Thankfully, 'Tie Me Up With Jackets' winds up being a delightful two minutes and 36 seconds of delectably catchy music that doesn't try too hard to be unhealthily off-kilter.
The female lead vocals are seductively alluring, but then so is the music, with electronic synth swashes adding, for lack of a better word, cuteness to the opening stages of the song. The rest of the song is beefed up somewhat, with crunching guitars helping to augment that much talked about crossover appeal. It's all very catchy, and with it expertly straddling the line between left-field daintiness and cymbal crashing ferocity, there's a chance that you might fall in love with this band.
