Duffy - Rain On Your Parade

To many she's a poor man's Amy Winehouse, to others she's that nurse from Casualty. The truth is, you'd be hard pushed to find a true Duffy fan. Yet the single is surprising. For all the theft from the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey, complete with Bond-style synth-string ensemble, there is a lot here to elevate this above the X-Factor Pop Hero sound of the Top 40 Now That's Enough Inter-reference.

Likely to appeal largely to daughters and their daughters, it's probable this won't be on the playlist in your local bistro-bar, but then they're really only interested in listening to Portuguese folktronica. Complete with rolling snares and the aforementioned stabbing strings, the latest from Wales strolls in, in an attempt to be seductive, although arguably stumbles on those faux Jimmy Choos. What you expect when you read the label, only amazingly more interesting.
