Cage The Elephant - Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked

Take a seat, pour yourself a glass of bourbon and take it easy. The latest single from Kentucky quintet Cage The Elephant, 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked', takes it down a notch and pays homage to all things blues. Slide guitar is here in abundance, along with some rickety acoustic guitar that sounds like it has been festering in your grandmother's attic for the past thirty years, but even if this doesn't seem like your sort of thing then there's still plenty on offer here.

Matt Schultz's storytelling vocals fit the song perfectly and proves that not only is he a master orator but also that he is a splendid melody maker. The vocals provide an infectious topping to the somewhat repetitve music - music a little lethargic, but who cares when lethargy can be this funky. For those who wish to kick back and tap their toes until they bleed, there's an instrumental version of the song on the single too. But then you would be missing out on one of the the most seductive elements of the song - the vocals.
