Bullet For My Valentine - Waking The Demon

Bullet For My Valentine - Waking The Demon From the off, this is modern metal by numbers. We have the mash up between screaming vocals and over-produced clean singing, the tension building pre-chorus and then yes, the all swaying, all melodic chorus. It's all a bit tired and has already been milked by peers such as Trivium and Killswitch Engage et al. With a title that smells a bit cheddary, 'Waking The Demon' is a little one dimensional and lacks genuine inspiration.

Saying that, there should be enough here to appease the average metal fan. The gung ho verse riff screams past at a hundred miles an hour and is best heard whilst speeding down an open road, whilst the customary guitar solo harks back to classic Metallica. They may play all the big venues however and be the darlings of those 14 year old kids you see hanging around on the street, but on this showing Welsh metallers Bullet For My Valentine are a bit forgettable and offer little we haven't experienced before.
