R&B legend and global superstar Whitney Houston has died, aged 48.
Kristen Foster, publicist to the singer, confirmed Houston's death early this morning. She was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Police spokesman Mark Rosen said that Houston had been pronounced dead at 15:55pm (23:55 GMT).
"She has been positively identified by friends and family who were with her at the hotel, and next of kin have already been notified," he said. There were no immediate or obvious signs of criminal intent.
Houston had established herself as the most decorated female singer of all time, notching up hundreds of awards and album sales in excess of 170m.
Houston had been staying at the Beverly Hilton Hotel before this Sunday's Grammy Awards. She had been expected to perform a special set at producer Clive Davis' pre-Grammy Party.
