Warner to drop Amelia Lily over ‘California’ single flop?

Amelia Lily looks set to be dropped by Warner Music following the poor chart position of her last single, 'California.'

We've all heard the Lily Saga. The talented singer was picked for The X Factor in 2011, then voted off, then brought back near the end. Things didn't get better from there either because she ended up parting ways with Xenomania after a few missteps, but then she signed with Warner and everything looked like it might be back on track. She had a new single, a slightly different sound and it seemed as though she was pressing the reset button on her career. But it wasn't to be.

When 'California' was released in September, things didn't quite go to plan. The single struggled in the midweek chart before finishing its first week at number 83 – a far cry from her top 40 placings under her former label. With such a low chart position and minimal buzz around her album since she split with the people who turned Girls Aloud into a pop phenomenon, we're being told it's likely that Amelia will either be dropped or have her debut album turned into a digital-only release to minimise costs.

Where do you think it went wrong for the young popstar? Did you pick up a copy of 'California' when it was released last month?
