PETA blasts Lady GaGa and Rihanna over “creepy” and cruel fashion

Lady GaGa isn't getting off that easily: animal rights group PETA has blasted the quirky singer for continuing to wear fur.

GaGa has recently been seen wearing a number of 'fur' fashion pieces, though there has been no official confirmation that the coats and turban are animal fur. The fact that GaGa has brazenly been flaunting her fur coats has incensed PETA, which has condemned both GaGa and Rihanna for their "creepy" fashion choices.

GaGa has been a vocal opponent of the fur trade in the past, but she famously courted controversy two years ago when she chose to wear a jerkied meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The singer then made a public apology on Ellen, saying that although she had been making a political statement with the piece, she had been wrong to use real meat to make a point.

In August, GaGa made a statement to address the storm around her fur coats: "Particularly one that I respect: 'animal rights.' I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux fur-pile or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, 'Kermit' and not to mention meat, that I have already worn."

The 'Born This Way' singer wasn't the only pop performer on PETA's radar. PETA told the Daily Express that they found her snakeskin boots "creepy".

They continued: "Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can't go on Oprah to cry about it.

"Wearing reptile skin is creepy and callous, and it makes her look even more out of touch... She and Lady Gaga seem so desperate to be freaks instead of recognized for their talents that you have to wonder if they realize that they are being laughed at."

Given the outspoken personalities of GaGa, PETA and Rihanna, there is little doubt that the scandal will stop here.
