One Direction fans better grab the tissues: Liam, Harry, Niall and Louis are going to split in 2016 following the release of their upcoming fifth studio album.
According to The Sun – so it might be worth grabbing a big pinch of salt for the time being – the boys met with Simon Cowell last week in London to discuss their future and all decided it was time to take an extended break. They're still committed to releasing their fifth album, but the likelihood is that they won't tour it.
An anonymous source insists this isn't permanent: "They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100% behind the decision.
"It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future. But for now it is the end and they go out on top as the world's most popular music act."
Girls Aloud made a similar decision back in 2009 when they split for solo projects. So if One Direction follow the same trajectory, we might see them reunite on Children in Need or Comic Relief in a few years.
