Official UK singles chart: One Direction beat Bruno Mars to number one

There are a lot of happy 1Directioners in the UK tonight as One Direction sail to number one. The boys settled into the top spot with the Ed Sheeran-penned 'Little Things' after playing the song live on last week's X Factor live show.

Bruno Mars had to settle for second place finish despite a neck-and-neck race to the finish line. 'Locked Out of Heaven' narrowly missed out on the top spot fourth UK number one when 1Directioners showed solidarity for their favourite band's new single.

Despite second place position in the midweek chart, Little Mix's 'DNA' was nudged into third place by the end of the week. Labrinth and Emeli Sandé's 'Beneath Your Beautiful' is at four.

Gabrielle Aplin's John Lewis Christmas song, 'Power of Love', is this week's number five. Gabrielle's managed to rocket 35 places up the chart in just a week. Just below her, Robbie Williams is coming down from his sugar-high as 'Candy' falls to six in its third week. It's not a bad drop considering the heavy competition in the top five.

Psy's 'Gangnam Style' falls one place to seven, The Lumineers are at eight with 'Ho Hey', and Rihanna's at number nine with 'Diamonds'.

McFly score another top 10 hit with 'Love is Easy' from new compilation album 'Memory Lane... The Best of McFly'. And just outside of the top 10, Adele's 'Skyfall' finishes at number 11 in its seventh week.
