Updated: It's being reported that Azealia has now been dropped from Interscope following her homophobic slur.

The Azealia Banks "faggot" scandal shows no sign of going away: GLAAD has published a statement condemning the rapper's use of the word.

Azealia called blogger Perez Hilton a "messy faggot" after he criticised her public feuds with other artists; she then told him to kill himself.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) published a statement on their website today, which reads: "Banks’ claim that the word "faggot" doesn't mean a gay male is not true. Regardless of her intent or her personal definition, what matters is the meaning given to that word by those who hear it, and the damage it causes when they do."

It continued: "Undoubtedly, there are gay kids who follow her on Twitter who hear this word in an entirely different context. This word is used almost universally by bullies, often as part of a larger verbal or physical assault. This word hurts those kids, no matter what Banks meant by it."

Jake Shears also slammed the '212' singer for her attack, commenting that context was 'not on her side'.
