Pete Jones, the drummer for Crowded House, has passed away at 45 after suffering from brain cancer.

Although he wasn't an original member, Pete had been with the band since 1994 after replacing Paul Hester. Hester went on to commit suicide in 2005 after suffering severe depression.

The announcement came from the band's official website this morning, paying tribute to their friend and bandmate: "We are in mourning today for the death of Peter Jones. We remember him as a warm hearted, funny and talented man, who was a valuable member of Crowded House. He played with style and spirit. We salute him and send our love and best thoughts to his family and friends."

Neil Mullane Finn wrote on Twitter: 'I am very sad to hear tonight that Peter Jones has died..a great man and a wonderful drummer. RIP Pete'

Crowded House formed in 1985 when Neil Finn and Paul Hester left the group Split Enz. They achieved commercial success with the hit songs 'Don't Dream It's Over', 'Fall At Your Feet' and 'Weather With You'.
