Could the Spice Girls recruit a replacement for Victoria Beckham?
The girls are reportedly enthusiastic about the possibility of a new Spice Girls album after their London 2012 performance
The Spice Girls aren't letting the scathing reviews of Viva Forever get them down. The girls are planning to reunite for a new album and tour, but Victoria Beckham won't be involved.
There's a new enthusiasm for a Spice reunion, both in the band and out, after their big performance in the London 2012 closing ceremony. So it's reported that both the girls and the record label are interested in reviving the girl-band for new material.
A source told the Daily
Fail Mail: 'The girls are going it alone without Victoria. They are keen to get back together and were trying to work out if they could do it as a four-piece. I think they know this is the last chance for them to get the band going again.
'But the Spice Girls as a foursome is not going to get them another record deal or sell out big venues. They need an extra cherry on the cake. And the cherry on the cake would be if they replaced Victoria.
'And that leads to the next question: who do they replace her with? At the moment it’s all being done in a very cloak-and-dagger way and not through official channels.'
Geri Halliwell, Mel C, Mel B and Emma Bunton all declined to comment on the story, which usually means something is afoot in Spice World. But as it's the Daily Mail reporting this story, there are some fantastical elements to it. The paper reports that the band are considering two options: a UK talent show to find a replacement or an established UK singer to join the line-up.
It looks like common sense might be in short supply for the girls. Hear'Say launched a similar talent show to replace Kym Marsh, one which hit the final rusty nail in the band's coffin.
What do you think about a possible Spice reunion? Would you be happy for them to do it without Posh Spice?
