Angel Haze has taken her place as number three on the BBC Sound of 2013 short-list.

Huw Stephens made the announcement today on his temporary breakfast show. Angel Haze joins Laura Mvula and CHVRCHES on the short-list.

The 21-year-old lyricist and rapper has garnered critical acclaim since covering Eminem's 'Cleaning Out My Closet', and she managed to survive the demise of Universal Republic Records.

Angel says her upbringing was heavily religious, which meant that growing up was very different for her. Writing poetry from the age of 17 helped her to begin her career, using "meticulous metaphors" to talk about her feelings.

"Music... I need it. I figured I would end up doing the only thing I could never stop loving in life," she told the BBC.

"I don't do this for people who don't get it."

The Sound of 2013 short-list so far includes:

4. Laura Mvula
3. Angel Haze
