Update: Azealia's representatives say the singer has not been dropped and will still release her debut album on Interscope.
It's being reported that Azealia Banks has been dropped from her record label after using a homophobic slur against Perez Hilton.
Azealia hit the headlines this weekend when she referred to the celebrity blogger as a "messy faggot" and told him to 'kill himself.' The rapper then suffered a huge backlash as she tried to defend her comments.
GossipWeLove is now reporting that Azealia has been dropped from Interscope Records following the scandal.
The site was allegedly sent an email earlier today in which a source claimed her debut album has now been canned.
The alleged email reads:
"Harlem lyricist Azealia Banks is the latest casualty of a major label deal cut short.
Interscope Records, the Universal Music Group label founded by Jimmy Iovine is reportedly not picking up the much-buzzed-about the 21-year-old rapper's option for future recordings, says a source close to the situation. When approached today about Banks' current debut album situation, the label insider simply stated, "Azealia Banks will no longer be releasing her LP under Interscope."
'Broke with Expensive Taste' was scheduled to be released in February so perhaps this clarifies the lack of promotion and official releases for a debut album that was supposed to drop within weeks."
As the weekend progressed, the scandal has grown to epic proportions with Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears and GLAAD condemning her use of the word as despicable.
Really not as moved by this f word thing as u all want me to be. As a bisexual person I knew what I meant when I used that word.
