Art Garfunkel talks Paul Simon split: “How could you let that go, jerk?”
But he's still hopeful that the two will reunite in the future
Just when you thought the rift between Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon was fixed, one of them goes and digs up the past again. Art has blamed Paul for the split and said their success created a monster in his former partner.
Art told the Telegraph: "How can you walk away from this lucky place on top of the world, Paul? What’s going on with you, you idiot? How could you let that go, jerk?”
"I felt sorry for him in high school, so I gave him love and compassion. And that compensation gesture has created a monster. End of interview."
"It created a hugely gifted, critically acclaimed, universally well-regarded, 12 Grammy-winning monster."
He also admitted that he's hopeful of a reunion somewhere down the line: "Will I do another tour with Paul? Well, that’s quite doable. When we get together, with his guitar, it's a delight to both of our ears. A little bubble comes over us and it seems effortless. We blend. As far as this half is concerned, I would say, 'Why not while we're still alive?'
"But I've been in that same place for decades. This is where I was in 1971."
It's not all doom and gloom for Art, though. He revealed that he has almost fully recovered from the paresis that affected his vocal cords.
"Since I lost my voice – and I have now almost fully recovered it – the loud, high notes haven’t quite come back, so I need a mic for volume."
