PJ Harvey has revealed the inspiration behind her latest album 'White Chalk'.

The singer told The Times that she listened to classical artists after being sent a mixtape from Nick Cave's guitarist Mick Harvey. Harvey was influenced by Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Arvo Part and Gorecki during the recording. She also spoke about the different style of vocals she used this time: "I've never used this voice before. I call it my 'church voice', because it's the one I would use when I went to church with my gran once a year to sing Christmas carols."

PJ Harvey releases 'White Chalk' today, 24th September, and plays a sold-out show at London's Royal Festival Hall on 29th September.
