The Victorian English Gentlemens Club are about to head out on tour supporting indie icons of yore The Wedding Present, after the success of double A-side single 'Amateur Man' / 'Ban The Gin'. Clickmusic spoke to them before they headed off.
What is a Victorian English Gentlemens Club and what might you do there?
A Victorian English Gentlemens Club is a small dank room where there is no music and no-one is allowed to have any fun.
You're just about to go on tour with The Wedding Present, are you prepared? What are you taking with you?
You've just been in the studio recording your album, how did that go?
Very well, thank you. It'll be released on August 14th. We recorded it in London with Gareth Parton who did the Go! Team and the Pipettes. It's self titled because we couldn't fit any more words on the cover.
What can we expect from it?
30.9 minutes of death, sailing and alcohol. It had melody and discordance and might take your eye out.
What's the Cardiff 'scene' like at the moment?
We realised the other day that there is a great Cardiff tradition of people shouting at the same time (ie. Mclusky, the Martini Henry Rifles, The Automatic, Shooting at Unarmed Men). Most of these bands are now sadly defunct, so we are proud to uphold the tradition.
Are you doing any festivals this year?
At the moment we're doing Ear-Rational All Day Party in Bristol, June 17th and the Metro Weekender in Cooper's Field, Cardiff, 26th August.
