Stage manager John Hougdahl warned an AEG executive that Michael needed a trainer and a "shrink" to get him prepared for his 'This Is It' concert dates at the O2.

"I have watched him deteriorate in front of my eyes over the last eight weeks," wrote John Hougdahl in an email to Randy Phillips. The email was dated five days before Michael's death.

"My layman's degree tells me he needs a shrink to get mentally prepared to get on stage," he continued. "And then a trainer to get him in physical shape."

Hougdahl also contended that Michael began the rehearsals in good health during April 2009.

"He used to do multiple 360 spins back in April. He'd fall on his ass if he tried now."

Although Broadcast reports that the show could be renewed at the end of series two, there are rumblings that The Voice's future is far from secure.

A show insider revealed: "Nothing is a done deal. We won't make any decision until the end of the series when we can look at the full picture from the ratings."

The show's ratings have increased over series two so far. Its premiere debuted to 6.2m on March 30 and the show hit a series high of 7.92m on April 20. It lost 500,000 viewers for the first Battle Rounds, but producers said they expected a drop against Britain's Got Talent.

Fans and critics have praised the second series for being more consistent. We've even warmed to the show over on Clickmusic, which has featured much stronger talent this time around.

Sir Brian May isn't a fan of the show, claiming that he hopes the show dies a natural death for disrespecting musicians everywhere.

The Official Charts Company reports that Daft Punk are outselling the entire UK album top 10 combined, which is an impressive feat considering the eight-year gap between 'Human After All' and 'RAM'.

Lead single 'Get Lucky' has sold almost 700,000 copies in the UK in just five weeks.

Though some people have been quick to suggest phallocentric or Christian references in the song, Lucy says that lighthouses represent hope and good fortune to her. So no, you haven't spotted a penis or Jesus Christ lurking in the lyrics.

"Lighthouses are my good omen," she revealed.

"When I was in the US and stuff went wrong, when I'd miss the last bus or I'd run out of money, I'd always see a lighthouse on a piece of paper, beer bottle or in real life – then things would start getting better."

MTV broadcast the episode of Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life last night and caused The Parents Television Council – an outspoken conservative advocacy group that has previously focused attacks on Friends, The Simpsons and Gossip Girl – to blast both Ke$ha and MTV in one very angry letter.

The PTC slammed the stunt as outrageous: "Why should we have to pay for this kind of garbage just so we can get access to Discovery, Disney, or the Golf channel? It's outrageous — and it shouldn't be that way. Consumers deserve choice.

They continued to focus vitriol on cable as a whole: "We should all have the ability to choose and pay for only the channels we want to watch, but the cable industry won't let that happen without a fight."

Ke$ha admitted that the incident was down to impulse and an inability to say no: "I'm also just one that doesn't shy away from things. I'm not good at saying 'no' so I just figure, fuck it, I'll try anything once. So I tried it.

"I wouldn't recommend it. It was pretty gross. And I don't think it really did anything very beneficial to me so, yeah, I wouldn't probably do it again."

David Bowie wrote a statement on his official website: "Trevor was a wonderful musician and a major inspiration for whichever band he was working with. But he was foremostly a tremendous guy, a great man."

Trevor was part of Bowie's Spiders From Mars band, where he played alongside Mick Woodmansey and Mick Ronson. He also contributed to some of Bowie's most iconic albums, including 'Hunky Dory', 'Aladdin Sane' and 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars'.

Uriah Heep also paid tribute yesterday: "Trevor was an all-time great – one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players Britain ever produced.

"His long time membership of Uriah Heep brought the band's music, and Trevor's virtuosity and enthusiasm, to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world."

Uriah Heep lead guitarist Mick Box said: "Trevor was a world-class bass player, singer and songwriter, and more importantly a world-class friend. The news comes just one day after Tulisa confirmed she would not return for the new series, telling fans she wanted to "do something different".

Despite some uncertainty over coming back, Nicole will return and she's planning on winning again this year: "I had so much fun and such a great experience on the show last year – it far exceeded all my expectations!

"I always give 110% to all I do and I put everything else on hold to focus on X Factor and supporting my Scherzy boys. This year, now that I've worked out doing my new music and the show together, I am so excited to get back to the UK, my second home, and get stuck into X Factor 2013!”

Fat Freddy’s Drop are back with a new single and a weirdly brilliant new video. 'Clean the House' sees the band painstakingly recreated as puppets as they pay homage to film noir and grindhouse.

The mini-marionette feature was directed by Mark Williams. All of the puppets used on screen were created by puppeteer Jon Coddington, who sculpted each member of the band from life.

This video contains almost as much action as the whole of Team America: World Police as card games spiral out of control, a waitress pulls a gun and a car chase begins. And though there's no puppet Kim Jong-Un, it's still very entertaining.

Mark Williams admitted that this particular shoot was a lot of fun: "The marionettes are so amazing it wasn’t until the second day of shooting that I realised I wasn’t working with the ‘band’. Their live section performance is the best of their career and this video proves that not only are they excellent musicians, they can really act too."

"Just wanted to let you all know that I won't be part of the X Factor panel this year," she wrote.

"I've had a great time on the show, but this year it's time to do something different.

"I'd like to thank everyone on The X Factor for two amazing years. Stay tuned as I have a very exciting announcement soon!"

Rumours have been drifting in and out of publications since the end of series 9, when critics savaged the show for becoming "lifeless".

Anastacia had been a hot favourite to join the panel this year, but was discounted after being diagnosed with cancer for a second time. While Mel B was also a contender, producers and Simon Cowell decided that Sharon Osbourne was the only strong choice.

Nicole Scherzinger is expected to join Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Sharon when series 10 begins. She previously backed Sharon's return to the panel by saying she is "Team Sharon all the way."

It's safe to say that Sir Brian May is not a fan of The Voice. The Queen guitarist has launched a seething attack on the BBC One show.

Writing in his personal blog "Bri's Soapbox", Sir Brian branded the format 'sickening', "vile" and "dumb". And he doesn't take kindly to Sir Tom Jones being part of the format either. He argues that music is all about the subtle nuances of performance and not "busting your guts" to force someone to turn around in a motorised chair.

He also went on to say that BBC One is "poisoning" young performers with a "stupid idea that someone can JUDGE a singer by turning [their] back".

Sounds like he's pretty ticked off with the show then.

Sorry – hate to be negative – but I have to say this.

In my opinion, "The Voice" is absolutely the dullest, dumbest, most depressing programme on TV. It's also the ultimate insult to music and to performers.

Every time I catch a glimpse of young singers busting their guts trying to win somebody's attention, who is rudely sitting with their back to the singer … I feel sick.

It brings singing down to the level of a stupid obstacle course on 'It's A Knockout'. This is not – NOT – what music is about.

When we sing, or play, for real, we are NOT screaming at the top of our lungs trying to persuade someone to notice us. We have messages, we have subtle emotions, we have beauty, which can only be shared by a performer in front of an audience whose whole attention is already freely given. The performance is all about EVERYTHING the performer gives … in voice, in sound, in body language, in facial expression, in intimate eye contact. This stupid, stupid idea that someone can JUDGE a singer by turning his back on him, and missing out on proper contact, is, to me, a fatuous nonsense. And actually poisonous to the growth of young performers.

I hate seeing the great Tom Jones shoehorned into this scenario … it seems to deprive everyone who takes part of their dignity.

I hope this vile programme dies a natural death very soon.

YouTube star Zach Sobiech has passed away after a long battle with osteosarcoma, a disease he had battled with since he was 14. He was 18-years-old.

Zach entered the public consciousness last year when he wrote a song about letting go of the sadness. 'Clouds' quickly became a viral hit on YouTube, amassing more than 3 million views. It opens with a heartbreaking but warmly positive question: "When faced with months to live, how do you say goodbye?"

The Children's Cancer Research Fund released a statement today: "Zach was at home and at peace with those he loved most. Zach's life ended just as he lived, embraced by the love of his family, friends, grace and music."

His family have asked that donations be made to the Zach Sobiech Cancer Fund in lieu of flowers. They're hoping that the fund can support research into the rare form of bone cancer.

Bryan Cranston, Jason Mraz, Lumineers, Sarah Silverman, Jason Derulo, Phillip Phillips and many more celebrities contributed to a new version of the YouTube hit. It went on to gather almost 1 million views.

Rest in peace, Zach.

Rihanna is working on her eighth studio album, recruiting Rodney Darkchild Jerkins to help her with new material.

Darkchild is one of the biggest music producers in the US. His collaboration discography lists Lady GaGa, the Spice Girls, Brandy & Monica, TLC, Toni Braxton and Michael Jackson.

In a video interview, Rodney told The Source: "I was working with Britney actually at the end of the year. She had me come on The X Factor show and do something with her, so we'll see what happens if we get a chance to work together.

"I am working with Mariah, I am working with Jennifer Lopez. I just finished a couple songs with Jessie J over in London and I also wrote a couple of songs that are being considered for Rihanna's new album, so there's a lot of good stuff happening so we'll see."

Rihanna is back in the studio working on material for her album, the follow-up to 2012's 'Unapologetic'. Since its release, her seventh studio album has sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

The X Factor USA's third season judging panel is now officially official. Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio will join the FOX reality show this summer. Which means Simon Cowell is going to be outflanked by three beautiful women for months.

There's been much speculation over the judges on the season three after L.A. Reid and Britney Spears departed their seats at the end of last year. Simon Cowell was the only confirmed judge for a long time, but Demi Lovato was confirmed to return earlier this year.

Simon said in a statement: "It's taken more than a decade, but I'm delighted to finally be on a panel with three girls (I think!).

"Paulina and Kelly both have great taste and massive experience in the music industry and together with Demi, this is going to be a fun panel. It just feels like the time to do something different."

Kelly Rowland starred on the UK version of the show during series eight, filling one of the spots left vacant by Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue. She left to focus on her music career and was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger.

Kelly announced: "I am very excited to be reuniting with Simon Cowell and The X Factor family. It feels great to be able to take this journey here at home in the States."

Louis Walsh seemed to confirm the news when he told TV Now that Kelly would join the show: "I've heard Kelly Rowland [will be a judge]. She’s very good and of course she worked with Beyonce. 'Sister B,' that’s what she used to call her.

"I think judges like Kelly Rowland are good. She started from nothing. She learned her craft. She can sing and dance."

News also leaked earlier than expected when The Midland venue in Kansas tweeted: "Due to X-Factor related sched. conflicts, the Kelly Rowland & The-Dream tour has been cancelled. All tix will be refunded at pt of purchase."




As for the second spot on the panel, that will be filled by Mexican popstar Paulina Rubio. She was considered a left-field choice, but her chemistry with Simon and feisty personality are said to have won over producers. Paulina has sold over 20 million records worldwide.

"I love The X Factor! I can't wait to find the next big music star here in America. I'm so thrilled to be part of the show as a judge," said Paulina.

"Simon, be careful what you wish for. Let's see if you are ready to handle me. Empieza la fiesta, amigo!"

Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole, Ne-Yo and Hilary Duff had both been linked to the panel before, though talks broke down over chemistry and salary issues.

Auditions for season three begin on Tuesday May 21 in North Charleston's Coliseum stadium, South Carolina.

The X Factor UK is yet to finalise its full panel for series 10. Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow are the only two judges confirmed.

He died after suffering complications during treatment for bile duct cancer at the RoMed medical facility in Rosenheim, Germany.

As a solo artist, Ray collaborated with Iggy Pop, Echo and the Bunnymen and even Weird Al Yankovic. He and fellow Doors' member Robby Krieger reunited in 2002 to tour again.

Robby was devastated to hear of Ray's passing: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today.

"I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Miguel was nominated for Top R&B Song in a category that included Alicia Keys, Frank Ocean and Trey Songz. He lost out to Rihanna's 'Diamonds'.

The Mail on Sunday reported that Nadine was considering creating a girlband to "reap the rewards" of being in another girl group.

"When she was in Girls Aloud, Nadine always wanted to be the leader, but it never worked out like that," a source allegedly told The Mail on Sunday.

"By putting together her own band, she can take control and also reap the financial rewards."

Now we're hearing that the story is "nonsense" and that Nadine remains "completely committed" to her second solo album.

An insider revealed: "Nadine is working on her own material, so I don't know where this nonsense story has come from. She's completely committed to her next album and has been working in the studio since Girls Aloud split."

Nadine's debut album was released on Tesco's record label and failed to make much impact in the album chart, peaking at 47 in the UK and 20 in Ireland.

The boys will are set to mark their tenth anniversary with two gigs at London's Royal Albert Hall on September 19 and 20. They broke the news to fans on McFly's official Facebook page earlier today.

"Huge news! To celebrate 10 years of McFly, we are super excited to announce... MCFLY 10th ANNIVERSARY CONCERTS at Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 19th September/ Friday 20th September."

Tickets will be available from Ticketmaster and Live Nation on Saturday, May 25 at 9am.

The gigs fall at the end of a string of dates this summer.

June 13: Kingsholm Stadium, Gloucester
June 14: Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool

August 25: Bents Park, South Shields, GB
