Rufus Wainwright is to have his opera 'Prima Donna' premiere in Manchester next Summer.
'Prima Donna' was recently turned down by New York's Metropolitan Opera as Wainwright refused to translate it from French to English. The show tells of a day in the life of an aging opera star in 1970s Paris, and will now be staged at the Manchester International Festival on 10th, 12th, 14th, 17th and 19th July 2009.
Wainwright recently told the Guardian that he hoped the opera he wrote would "capture an audience through beautiful music" in the production.
The festival staged Damon Albarn's 'Monkey: Journey To The West' this year.
