It's almost impossible to overstate the influence Arcade Fire are having on modern music, but from British Sea Power to Fleet Foxes it becomes more undeniable with each passing week. Step forward Get Well Soon, the latest plaything of singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Konstantin Gropper, who sounds like David Bowie nursing a particularly nasty cold.
But my, my, is this something. Like an electro step forward from Johnny Cash and 'Hurt', or what 'Losing My Religion' would sound like if it was sung by God, it has the added bonus of an incessant girl choir who exhort the listener to "shoot baby, shoot baby, pull the trigger". At this point you may find yourself putting down your nice cup of Tetley while you begin searching for your gun. 'If This Hat Is Missing...' looks down on its contemporaries with the same sense of burning superiority a Wicker Man might demonstrate if placed in a field of indie scarecrows. Indeed from where this reviewer's standing this could well be the first true masterpiece of 2008. Buy it. Download it. Steal it. Do what you have to do.
