Just in time for the summer sun and good times, Alphabeat have arrived with this fantastic album that will no doubt kick start your good moods and get the summer vibes started. A creative album that radiates intelligent eccentric pop music with a feel good factor, it also showcases a glamorous and modern sound where every song is tuneful, slick and just about the most radio friendly set of songs your likely to hear all year. There are elements of CSS, Scissor Sisters and even The Beach Boys and Abba. Then there's also the wonderful theatrical side of the band, which is more akin to the type of underground experimentation you'd expect Mike Patton to be making with one of his marvellous side projects. With talent such as this many acts choose to over complicate and experiment to the point of absurdity, but what Alphabeat have done is make a mainstream pop record that is sure to reap them success and credit amongst critics and the public.
Opener 'Fantastic Six' could probably be classed as new rave, and upon first listen you may be forgiven for thinking you're in for a CSS style bouncy new rave onslaught; you'd be wrong though because every song on the album is so different and incorporates a completely different style. This is demonstrated almost straight away with the second track being the recent single 'Fascination', a glorious pop anthem where they cover similar ground to fellow Scandinavians Abba, but with a very modern twist. Other single '10,000 Nights' is so cheesy it could be the theme music to almost any American teen movie, however you do get the overwhelming sense that they aren't taking themselves too seriously and instead are just revelling in their ear for a good tune.
If you can take this band with a pinch of salt, you should be able to appreciate their over the top 80s influenced pop. Hence you can dance around your kitchen like a love-sick sugar-charged maniac to this guilty pleasure of an album.
