Mystery Jets: My First Album
More on: Mystery Jets

Mystery Jets edit Clickmusic today, and here bassist Kai Fish talks about the first album he bought and the impact it still has on him today.

Michael Jackson - Bad
Released: 1987

The first album I bought was 'Bad' by Michael Jackson, and I still give it the odd listen to this day, over ten years since I first heard it! I still think it sounds so fresh, and that's probably down to the intricate production of Quincy Jones. I love the 80's keys and synth lines, the crack of a whip snare sounds and the over the top funk bass lines.

It's also an incredibly nostalgic album for me, and I remember watching 'Moonwalker' and dreaming of being Michael Jackson...! It left such a strong impression on me when I was about 10, and somehow I'm sure it's still an influence on me musically to this day.

I think it's a great shame Michael Jackson's somewhat bizarre personality and lifestyle has over shadowed, in some peoples eyes, some of the most exciting pop music in the last twenty years. I hope people can listen to his music and put aside any ideas they might have about him as a person, as it would be a great shame if his music isn't discovered and appreciated by generations to come.
