As 'Shape Of My Heart' begins there is a wave of relief in the confirmation that this is thankfully not a Sting cover version but instead a great big joyful hug of a folk-pop record that is bound to leave you with a big silly grin on your face. The arrangement features all those favourite indie pop staples: handclaps, tambourines, violins, big fat acoustic guitar and most notably Charlie Fink's bittersweet lyrics.
To see the lyrics written down without hearing the song you would undoubtedly feel rather depressed with Fink singing of dying trees and being happy to have a hollow chest, before telling us telling us "you don't know how it feels to be alive/until you know how it feels to die". However this is a love song to not being in love, just being in love with life, this sentiment culminating in Fink’s refrain in the chorus "if there's any love in me don't let it show/if there's any love in me don't let it grow" before an explosion of latino guitar and buoyant toms carry the song to its close.
