'Bad Kids' starts with a dirty, somewhat classic, feel and then adds tinkling bells which gives it the ultimate Christmas vibe, despite it being only May. It's an incredibly cheerful sound and it really does fit the feeling that the sun glistening on the trees' leaves in our early heat wave gives. A tricky little number, because it's not bad at all, but manages to sound repetitive whilst only being two minutes long. Remarkable even, but maybe it goes to show how there is only really one idea here.
'Leroy Faster' resonates with the ghost of the 1960s even more than 'Bad Kids'. It’s not as good, of course, but it contains a simple, clear guitar line that interjects into the song like stabs in the dark and gives the song its identity.
Two songs that have wholly borrowed their identity - an injection of originality would probably give this band just the kick up the artistic arse it needs. You can hear they have something going on, it just isn't clear what.
