'God' is a cheery enough portion of FM friendly pop rock, co-produced by Francis Macdonald from Teenage Fanclub. MacDonald's influence cannot be understated as Attic Lights jangle along, with Kev Sherry's crisp Glaswegian accent telling him upstairs that he'll "be a better man/never let her down, try to understand". There are shades of Weezer with tidy harmonies aplenty and a well executed stop-start chorus, but while 'God' is unlikely to offend anyone, it is equally unlikely to grip the casual listener.
'Ton Of Love' doesn't stray too far from the chug of 'God', but '5 Weeks Behind' is much better, featuring pitch perfect harmonies and delicate strings atop a summery acoustic strum. 'God' may not be the most exhilarating three minutes of your life, but at least Attic Lights always sound like they're enjoying themselves and are never caught trying to be anything they're not or attempting to imitate the latest crop of NME favoured indie bands. For that may we be truly thankful.
