Get Well Soon is the alias of Berlin based songwriter and philosophy student Konstantin Gropper and this double A-side shows that he has taken enough time out from debating the human condition to fit a wealth of ideas into six minutes of music.
'You/Aurora/You/Seaside' is a superior piece of dark orchestral pop driven by clattering drums and a dramatically mournful trumpet line - that recalls the solo work of Ian Brown - before Gropper's vocals enter, playing the part of a slightly less hysterical Matt Bellamy. The track builds to a pleasingly over the top finale; Gropper's sinister vocals repeating "you are apart" over and over before layers of instruments carry us through to the finish.
'Christmas In Adventure Parks' is a more traditional folk pop arrangement but still manages to cram in banjos, strings and ghostly backing vocals that recall Beirut, coupled with some astute deadpan lyrics.
An assured and exciting introduction, this release hints at an artist with ambition, ideas and a great pop sensibility which means that although they may be ambitious, these songs are never in danger of becoming a forum for self indulgence.
